To celebrate 150 since the founding of the Société Jersiaise, Editions Emile are publishing a new title exploring key themes of Jersey’s identity through the collections of the Société Jersiaise Photographic Archive.

This book is as much an exploration of photography at the Société Jersiaise as it is an examination of what Jersey is, who its inhabitants are and where we are going. Charts the full history of photography in Jersey from the 1840s and projects into the archival future. This publication will celebrate the breadth and depth of the SJPA collections, acknowledging how they shape our understanding of Jersey’s past, present and future. Particular attention is paid to the role of photography in the Société’s activities, situating the Société’s legacy and ongoing work as central to the story of Jersey.

About Éditions Emile
The first set of publications will be a series of small photo-zines comprising of 48 pages with an average of 30-40 images and a short text providing further context. Publishing three new editions annually, the photo-zine will be affordable for everyone with an interest in Jersey’s rich cultural heritage and photographic collections held in the Société Jersiaise Photographic Archive.
